A farm does not hire at the same pace all year. At Les Fermes de la Teranga, the payroll team handles permanent employees, seasonal workers and day workers at the same time, each with their own rules, declarations and payslips. Three populations, one payroll to get right.

An agricultural company working for Senegal’s supply chains

Les Fermes de la Teranga, formerly Senhuile, is an agribusiness company based in the communes of Ronkh and Ngnith, in Senegal. It runs several agricultural activities and currently focuses part of its operations on fodder crops, at the request of the State of Senegal, to support the country’s livestock farmers.

This activity calls on different categories of staff as needs change. For the payroll team, that variety demands rigorous management of headcount, administrative data and social obligations.

The challenge: varied profiles, without losing control

The issues were the administrative management of staff and day workers, the processing of their payroll, and having the reports needed for the declarations to IPRES and to the Caisse de Sécurité Sociale.

With a workforce that moves with the farming seasons, the company needed a tool that was easy to understand and to handle, and that gave a clear view of every employee covered. Compliance also had to follow the applicable changes: decrees, orders, employer decisions and amendments to labour law.

Popay’s response: a platform, and a team that answers

Les Fermes de la Teranga use Popay for the administration of their permanent, seasonal and day workers, and for the payroll of all their staff. Self-service completes the set-up.

Beyond the software, training and the availability of the Popay team helped the user take the platform in hand and run daily operations. That closeness matters most when a rule changes or a question needs a quick answer.

The benefits

  • Easy to take in hand: software the team finds simple to understand and to run day to day.
  • Better workforce tracking: one environment for permanent, seasonal and day-worker profiles.
  • Payroll and social obligations: the reports available to support the declarations to IPRES and the Caisse de Sécurité Sociale.
  • Regulatory updates: a system kept up to date as regulations and labour law change.
  • Support: training and a Popay team available to back the use of the platform.

“Popay helps us manage our permanent, seasonal and day workers, and their payroll, more simply. The solution is easy to understand and to use. We also value the training, the team’s availability and the updates that let us keep up with regulatory changes.”

Permanent, seasonal, day workers. One payroll. Reports ready for IPRES and CSS.

Senegalese payroll that keeps pace with the business

What Les Fermes de la Teranga describe is Popay Payroll at work in Senegal: a gross-to-net calculation Popay owns and updates when a decree or an order changes, and employee records held in Core HR whatever the contract. The IPRES and CSS rates and ceilings are on the Senegal page, kept current, not in this article.
