- Client: Groupe EDK
- Country: Senegal
- Sectors: oil and gas, fuel stations, supermarkets and neighbourhood stores, quick-service restaurants, bakery and pastry, fintech, money transfer and electronic money
- Spokesperson: Binta Hane, HR Director
- Popay modules: HR administration, payroll and self-service
Groupe EDK runs fuel stations, shops, restaurants and fintech services across Senegal. When more than 300 new employees joined at once, the HR team had less than a week to put every one of them into the HR system and into that month’s payroll. Not the next month’s. That one.
The challenge: a large onboarding against a live payroll deadline
Groupe EDK needed to integrate more than 300 new employees into its HR system and pay them in the same month’s payroll run, with less than one week to do it. By the client’s own estimate, an integration of that size would normally take two to three weeks without Popay.
This was not a data-loading exercise. Each new record had to hold up three things at once: the HR file, a correct payslip, and the employee’s own access to self-service. The deadline left no room for delay, and the quality of employee and payroll data could not slip either.
The response: one team, one target, payroll first
Popay worked side by side with the Groupe EDK HR team and put the support in place to reach the target. The priority was simple: every new employee on the month’s payroll, with a record that would keep working for HR administration afterwards.
Three connected modules came into the working process:
- HR administration, to centralise and maintain employee records.
- Payroll, to process salaries and produce the end-of-payroll outputs.
- Self-service, to give employees direct access to their payslips and their absence requests.
The outcome: deadline met, and HR information at hand
More than 300 new employees were integrated and included in the month’s payroll in under one week, against the two to three weeks the client expected for an integration of that size without Popay.

Groupe EDK also reports:
- Payroll reporting: the end-of-payroll reports, including payroll registers and monthly declaration reports, are available, and preparing a report or finding employee information is now close to instant.
- Payroll corrections: fewer errors and manual corrections, and real time saved during payroll periods. The client did not put a figure on it, and neither do we.
- Payslips: HR can access them collectively, each employee individually through self-service.
- Employee records: one system for every employee file, information available the moment it is needed.
- Absence requests: employees submit them through self-service. They have adopted the tool, and direct requests to HR have dropped.
- Leave allowances: a lower risk of omissions or errors in calculating them.
“With Popay, we can easily access all the reports required to close payroll, including payroll registers and monthly declaration reports.”

A partnership that answers
Groupe EDK describes its relationship with Popay as healthy, cordial, helpful and professional. During a compressed onboarding, that mattered as much as the software: speed only counts if the payroll that comes out of it is right.
300+ new employees. Under a week. One payroll run, on time.
One employee record, from hiring to payslip
What Groupe EDK describes is how Core HR and Popay Payroll work together: the employee file is created once, and the same record feeds the payslip, the declaration reports and the employee’s self-service. Popay runs payroll in Senegal and across Africa.
